This was such a beautiful way to open the book. It truly does grab you by the heart from the first page. I've been trying to get into historical fiction for a bit now, but the beautiful thing about great historical fiction is that it could take place at any time and still be a great story.
I want to know more about these heartbroken characters, and what lies in store for them (obviously the war, but I want to know more on a personal level). I want to know the personalities of the three daughters, and how their brother's death affected them. I want to know more about the father, and how he fares as a mortician. And I especially want to know so much more about the mother, since she's the one who lost the most.
