In 1918, Pauline Bright moves to Philadelphia with her husband and 3 daughters. While men go off to fight in the war, the Spanish Flu strikes the city. Despite many hardships at home, the family takes on an orphaned baby.

This novel alternates between the voices of Pauline and her 3 daughters. I loved seeing the daughters grow during this very difficult time period. Each one had a distinct believable personality. I did not know much about the Spanish Flu so this book was definitely enlightening for me. It was the deadliest disease in history.

I absolutely loved this novel. I think it will stick with me over time. It is the first Susan Meissner book I have read and look forward to reading more.
