I read Susan Meissner's A BRIDGE ACROSS THE OCEAN earlier this year and quite liked it. I always enjoy her characters. I'm a fan. That being said, I chose to read a sample of Meissner's story because of its historical theme. Historical fiction is my favorite genre. I couldn't resist. Also, my eyes were drawn to the title and cover immediately. Within the first few sentences, I was invested. Four short pages were not enough. I need more! But, this short sampling WAS enough to convince me to add AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN to my wishlist. I identified with Pauline's loss. I too lost my youngest child to heart disease. I could feel Pauline's grief as she stood over her child's grave, trying to say goodbye to his final resting place. My husband and I moved from our small home town in July, leaving our beloved daughter to rest in The Garden of Mary, a lovely section of the cemetery, if one can consider a cemetery lovely. Coincidentally, her headstone is also etched with a little lamb sitting amongst lilies. I hated leaving that tiny mound of sorrow, but I carry my child's heart with me always, every where I go. So, yes! I could FEEL the beginning of this story, as if it were my own. Meissner really pulls heartstrings here. Four short pages was all it took. I need a copy of this book ASAP!
