First, how have I never heard of this flu that killed so many right after the end of the Great War? I am not usually so ignorant of things of such major importance, so kudos to this author for not only writing a book that entertains, but one that educates as well.
It is a rare book where you truly like all of the characters in it, but this one of those books. The older sister is super-smart, but not in a superior way. The father is a hard worker who does the best he can for his family. The neighbor boy who slow is not looked down on at all, but loved for his uniqueness. Even the main character, who does something that in the end causes a huge issue, is only motivated by love.
There were many twists and turns to the story, and I loved all of them! And in the end, every relationship ends in a way that is the best for each of them without anyone being hurt in the process.
