I was lucky to receive an advanced reader's copy of this novel. Susan Meissner has written another beautiful novel. This is the story of the Bright family and is told in alternating chapters by the 4 main female characters in the family. I found this technique to be a very effective way to build character development and tell the story. The backdrop of the story is World War I and the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 in Philadelphia. This devastating flu epidemic was something I knew very little about. This is why I love historical fiction. Ultimately this is a story of love, loss, hope and the resiliency of the human spirit. I very much enjoyed this special novel and look forward to the author's next book.
