I won the "As Bright as Heaven" from Bookish First for giving my first impression of a few chapters of the book on Bookish First I wish to thank Bookish First, Berkley, and Susan Meissner for the opportunity to read this book and provide an honest review.

This book was about a very scary time period and city that I knew VERY little about - the Spanish Flu epidemic set in Philadelphia. The story was difficult to read as the country was fully involved in WWI as well as the horrors of the Spanish flu. It was historical story that was good to learn more about, but it was not a happy, uplifting read at all. At times, I had to take a break from the book as it was a bit of a downer for me.

I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed all them and learned a lot from them as well. "As Bright as Heaven" is no exception, but I only wish that I had had learned more about each of the characters more fully as the writer has a great way with words and could have read even more.

This is a definite recommend, but it is not an easy read due to the subject matter.
