I am a huge fan of historical fiction so I just knew I would love this book from the start. What surprised me was how little I knew about the Spanish Flu epidemic. This book follows one family - the Brights. We are introduced to the family before the flu hits, we experience the epidemic with them and then discover how life goes on once the flu is gone.
This story is told from the perspective of all of the women in the family. I love how Susan writes each character to bring out their personality. It was interesting how each character reacted to each challenge they faced. I also appreciate that the story continued after the epidemic had ended. A lot of decisions were made during a time of stress and we were able to see the results of those decisions.
Sometimes the right thing to do doesn't feel to right in the end.
