Sweet, emotional first chapter

I wanted to read this book because it is set in Philadelphia in 1918. My father was 8 years old and my mother was 6 during that time period and I felt that it would be background about them in addition to the characters in the book. What I read was before the family traveled across the ocean to Philadelphia.

I was moved by the loss of the baby boy and understood why they wanted to start a new life in a new world. I would love to continue reading this story.
