From the opening sentence, I was hooked. I felt like Pauline was sitting across from me, telling me in a quiet, dignified way about the life and death of her baby and the sea change that is to come to her family. I want to know what happens next. If the rest of the book is written as well as this chapter, I won’t be able to put it down.
I love the cover art. I grew up near Philadelphia and the cover truly reminded me of parts of the city when we would go in to visit family or play tourist.
I have not read this author before, but if this is typical of her work, I will be reading this and other books, for sure. I love the lyrical descriptions that involve multiple senses that adds so much depth to the story. I’m glad I chose this book to preview.
