As Bright As Heaven opens as Pauline copes with the loss of her young infant son, Henry, and an impending move to Philadelphia where she, her husband Thomas, and her three daughters plan to get a fresh start as Thomas learns the trade of mortuary science as World War I pushed on. There is a sense of grief which has not yet come fully to the surface in this mother's loss. As a fan of historic fiction, I look forward to learning more about what it was like to live in a major American city during this war and the Spanish Flu. I am interested in seeing whether the overcast cover art foreshadows further loss and dealing with the depth of recovering from bereavement.
