The cover is what initially drew me to this book. There was something about it that screamed "historical fiction" and that is one of my favorite genres.

Hands down, this author writes BEAUTIFULLY. As a teacher, I find myself reading books and naturally analyzing parts of what I read such as "Oh my gosh, this first paragraph would work well for teaching tone and mood" or "Oh man, that first page has quite a bit of figurative language!" I did this, naturally, for this book which shows me that this author is quite talented.

I don't think this book is for me, though. I don't think I'm interested in the topic. As someone who doesn't yet have kids of my own, I'm not sure I can connect with Pauline (the protagonist). But, I WOULD read it just for the sole purpose that I liked the author's writing.
