Susan Meissner is one of my favorite authors. I have read many of her books plus own several of them. "Bright as Heaven" is on my TBR list.

The opening chapter of "Bright as Heaven" is written in first person by a mother who is grieving the lost of her infant child, her only son. Before his death, she never wanted to leave the area that she always knew as home even though her husband has been offered a better job. But once she faces the reality of her son's death, she thinks it is in the best interest of her family to move. In her mind, moving will not only allow her husband to have a better job but also give their daughters an opportunity to have a better life.
