An Anonymous Girl starts out pretty innocuously. Jessica is working as a makeup artist in New York City, and trying to pay her own bills as well as help out with bills at home. While on the job she finds out about a study that pays $500 just to answer some questions. Attending the question sessions is unnerving, but the potential to make more money pulls her deeper into the study. As the study progresses and her relationship with the psychologist running the study intensifies, Jessica begins to question the morality of the study and if she really wants to be a part of it. This book started off slowly for me and I questioned the hype some. I knew that The Wife Between Us was a big success, and there were a lot of people looking forward to this second novel. Once the story moved into Jessica’s relationship with the psychologist it really started to get intriguing, and I found myself not able to predictably guess how things were going to play out, which is crucial to me in a thriller novel.
