Going into this I tried to temper my expectations because I feel like the best thrillers are the ones that sneak up on you. Even though I haven't read The Wife Between Us, I know it was a popular best seller last year, so I tried to approach An Anonymous Girl without any preconceived ideas.

Right off the bat I thought the relationship between Jess and Lydia had a lot of potential. It kind of reminded me of the dynamic between Emma Stone's character and the doctors conducting the study from the Netflix show Maniac. The back and forth between the two of them was at times both subtilely and not-so-subtilely manipulative.

I think I was expecting another big reveal near the end. It ended up being less sinister than I was anticipating. It was pretty straightforward from about the halfway point on, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. So while I wanted to find out what happens, I wasn't on the edge of my seat. This was a good, solid psychological thriller. It feels like the type of book that will get some sort of big or small screen adaptation within the next five years or so. Will definitely be keeping an eye out for that!
