An Anonymous Girl is the second novel from authors Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen, and the authors have knocked it out of the park! If you’re expecting more of the same after The Wife Between Us, then you’re in for a pleasant surprise!

Jessica, a 28-year-old struggling makeup artist learns about a well-paying morality and ethics study from a client. When she discovers that Taylor is planning on skipping out on the appointment (cos who needs two new sweaters from rag & bone?), Jess decides she’ll attend instead. Once accepted, she takes her seat and starts answering questions from the mysterious Dr. Shields.

"Be open and truthful, and avoid pivoting away from any embarrassment or pain the questions provoke."

Told in two points of view, both Jess and the doctor, we’re pulled into the story immediately. Jess doesn’t sugarcoat her truth and answers what are, frankly, some pretty disturbing questions with little reserve. When Dr. Shields, fascinated by “Subject 52”, asks Jess to expand her participation in the study, Jess, despite her misgivings, readily agrees.

And then things get even weirder. And creepier. And dark. And did I mention creepy?

There is no one “big reveal” in An Anonymous Girl. Every time you think you’ve figured something out, you’re hit with just enough of a twist or revelation to set you back on your heels.

With unreliable narrators, a solid cast of problematic characters, and some perfect pacing, you’ll be left with more than a few feels, even if you have to suspend a little bit of belief to get there.
