I think of all the polls that are on the internet nowadays and shudder that people so willingly give up their personal information to an unknown source. In this case, Jess, desperate for money assumes the source of the questions is legit. Because the study is being conducted on a college campus and has the trappings of legitimacy and a good amount of cash in exchange for personal information, Jess assumes all will be well. I already think the assistant, Ben, is a creeper. Only time will tell.
