Almost Home is a sweet southern tale of fast friendships and caring characters, with some intrigue and romance mixed in. Valerie Fraser Luesse's Missing Isaac was one of my favorite novels of 2019, so I was eager to pick up Almost Home and grateful for the ARC provided to me in exchange for my honest opinion. The story takes place in the town of Blackberry Springs, Alabama during World War II. Initially, the story seemed to revolve around a struggling couple, but quickly the circle of characters and interesting backstories widened. I especially liked the link to the past. While only half way done as of pub date, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Almost Home to anyone looking for a quick read with a healthy dose of Southern charm.
