I called this Historical fiction + because it is a tad more than just a typical historical fiction novel. Yes, it has all the elements you'd expect in a HF novel, great setting, mood, and tone. However, the boarding house gives the reader an in dept look in to several interesting characters. Thankfully this book does not read like a history book like so many do. Rather it's an easy read with a great setting. The characters are well developed and the setting and time period are as important as if they were characters themselves.
I believe my favorite part of this book is that the historical nature isn't shoved down your throat. I didn't feel like I was studying for a history test while reading. It added to the story rather than distract from it.
