I absolutely love historical fiction books but Almost home goes beyond your normal story about a war and survival. It's a book about surviving and perseverance through hard times which created these strong family bonds through friendship and a vision for the future. Set in rural Alabama at Dolly and Si's boarding house where some lovely people live while working for the war effort. Some shady characters and mystery, grabs and holds your attention until the end. Really easy and great read. Even though the book wraps up the story fantastically I could read several more books about this great group of friends due to the love and thought that went into each character. I don't usually give books 5 stars but it really deserves the high rating.
