This starts out like a "feel good" book. And every now and then we all need books that make us realize how kind people can be. Set in World War II in Alabama, Dolly and Si are taking in boarders to work in the munitions plants. The Depression continues to hang on in the South - Dolly says someone forgot to let Alabama know that times were better. Dolly has saved back a room for someone special; she does not know who that might be, until Anna and Jesse arrange to stay with her and then she knows they need that room in order to do some healing. Dolly is a nurturer and she knows who needs help.
