Almost home is a sweet “feel good” kind of book. Some may call it a bit sappy but I enjoyed it. The setting Is during WWII in Alabama. Dolly and Si have turned they once beautiful large home into a boarding house to try to make ends meet. Everyone is struggling and we get to meet the boarders who take up residence with Dolly and Si. Everyone has problems, financial and personal, and we come to know and love each border. Well, almost every border.
They are a tight knit group that develop a family type of bond. There is a bit of romance and there is a mystery to be solved that added a bit of excitement. I found Almost Home by Valerie Fraser Luesse to be a nice break for me. I also enjoyed her previous book called Mossing Isaac.
I received a copy of the book from Bookish First. This is my unbiased review.
