I would give full points to the author for creating a profound and thought-provoking novel.
The story is about 2 black men who attended a prestigious college, 30 years apart - 1968 and 1995. It talks about a lot of similarities between the times. The expectations of family and society that stay true in both times. How racism existed and exists now and how some people from the minority community have found ways to live with it.
I especially liked the 1968 part during the aftermath Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, and how Kevin joins the protest. I learned so much in this part.
I deducted a star for the 1995 part as it was not as captivating as the 1968 part.
Overall, I think the story is very profound and I would suggest everyone to read this. It also showcases have in certain areas we, as a society, have failed to mature. It gave me a lot to think about long after I finished the book.
