Looks like promising debut with important subject in which i have been very interested lately.
The comparison between the two periods of time sounds work done great to me. Social issues like those faced in this one are extremely important ,as it is important to be talked about and debated.
Racism is still as prevalent today as it was fifty years ago. The book opens with Gibran in 1995 then switch the narrative to his uncle Kevin when he was at Columbia in the late 1960s. They face the same issue, but I'm curious how they will each handle the situation. The writing is impressive for a debut.
From the first two chapters, you can already tell that the author making a powerful statement about the inequality black people in America were facing and still are facing.
Unfortunately not fan of the cover although it is represents the story very well.
