A topic I always find interested is one of racism in colleges and universities. Ive watched docs, read memoirs, and this book is a perfect one to add to my growing list to recommend people. I think more young adult books should have a focus on issues that are actually happening in the world. Seeing both Kevin and Gibran go through the same thing decades apart and that decades in the future now there are still a lot of things that haven't changed is just sad but also so insanely powerful.
I loved Allens writing style and this and such an amazing debut book and she's for sure a fresh voice and I cant wait to see what she writes next. This debut is so insanely assured beautiful and with just such resonant content.
I also just think this is one of the best book covers of the year and so beautifully represents this story. The fact that this is a historical fiction book but feels so relevant makes this a must read.
