This is the kind of book that delivers an important message.
I will be honest and say that this wasn't the best written book I've ever read. But I'm still glad I had a chance to read it, as I feel it really is an important story, whose powerful message needs to be shared with more readers.
One thing I really liked about this book was how well-grounded in history is was. The story features two black men, from different time periods, and yet I found myself intrigued to read about both of their lives. And I also enjoyed seeing the connection between the nephew and uncle, despite them growing up in different time periods.
This book explores important themes such as the effects of someone's background on their fight for injustice, how to uplift voices in social movements, and how to try and avoid burn out for those taking part in the movements.
