I enjoyed it
This felt like a very powerful story that needed to be told and with this being a debut novel from autumn allen, I do believe that she told the story in a very respectful and insightful way. To see the similarities in these two different timelines, one dealing with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr and the other dealing with racism at his prestigious prep school in the wake of the million man march and finding a space where he can advocate for not only himself but for his fellow black students hit close to home as someone who is black themselves.
The pacing of the book was so good that it almost didn’t even feel like this was coming from a debut author and the stories of our two main characters were woven together so nicely and even with its somewhat dark and thought provoking storyline, autumn allen still managed to give us characters that were beautifully written.
