This book was an absolute delight to read. Both of our nain characters are African American students who are trying to be successful in prestigious educational facilities. We get to see how their journeys are similiar in some ways bit also very different from one another. The stories take place roughly thirty years apart. One in 1960's is during the tragic assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The other is in the 1990's during the Million Man March/ see no color campaign. We get to see both characters grow and develop as they deal with systemic racism and try to continue to succeed at the educational institutions. I found myself admiring and relating to both characters. I think the dual tinelines were both beautifully done. We got to see which issues were still prevalent even decades apart. The editing and characters kept me very engaged.
