The first look was so good that I'm actually frustrated the book isn't out yet for me to read the rest.
Black boys are grossly under-represented in a lot of ways, but YA fiction feels like an especially bad one. I'm a teen librarian and a common lament from parents at my job is that it feels like there are hardly any YA books for boys. And yes, of course they can read books with protagonists who differ from them, but people tend to be most drawn to books that make them feel seen. Especially teenagers!
