Racism is still as prevalent today as it was fifty years ago. The book opens with Gibran in 1995 at a mostly white school where a microaggression is occurring. They then switch the narrative to his uncle Kevin when he was at Columbia in the late 1960s. They face the same issue, but I'm curious how they will each handle the situation. The writing is impressive for a debut.
