All We Ever Wanted begins with two parents and their thoughts on their lives, their own children respectively, and an event that would change each family forever.
The beginning quickly alludes to two major characters, Nina, mother of Finch and Tom, father of Lyla. Nina lives a very privileged life while Tom seems to be middle class at best. Their lives couldn't be more different but there are two major similarities between the characters: they both love their children very much and their children both go to the same school.
The excerpt is two chapters long and each chapter ends with the tease of a major event that will change the lives of all the characters in the book. I personally cannot wait to read more of this novel by Emily Giffin, it is obvious these two chapters are just the precipice of drama about to unfold.
