Nina and Kirk are delighted that their only son Finch has just been accepted to Princeton. Part of the culturally elite, they attend a Suicide Prevention and Awareness fundraiser. At the end of the vignette about their life is a hint that all is not well with Finch. Meanwhile, acros town, in a home with a single father Tom and his daughter Lyla, Tom is worried about Lyla’s choices but she told him she was studying, so he let her go out. Then he gets the phone call about her being under the influence of too much alcohol. Both stories are absolutely enthralling and lead the reader to want to know more about Nina and Kirk’s story as well as Tom’s. The premise seems to be that no matter your social status, your child may not always make good choices, and you are left to pick up the pieces.
