This is the kind of excerpt where I still feel the book could go either way - Nina seems pretty out of touch because of her wealth (and therefore, to me, it does not make her relatable) but Tom sucked me in a bit more. Since I've enjoyed Emily Giffin novels before, however, I trust her enough to want to keep going.
I always appreciate novels with complex characters and situations, and that is what Emily Giffin does best. While I imagine this book might take a turn towards the #metoo movement and possibly the subject of date rape (? maybe not, we didn't get enough in the excerpt to know!), the two leads suggest that it will be a different take on it. I like different! And, as a newer parents myself, I'm definitely interested in books which explore parent/child relationships while still emphasizing that parents are MORE than just parents. I would definitely like to keep reading and will be looking for it soon!
