While I felt that the storyline with Tom and Lyla could be slightly predictable, I still want to see how Giffin chooses to unfold a story that is a reality for far too many people. There are a lot of stories that go in this direction, so there is a lot of pressure on the author to find a unique perspective. The overlapping theme of the effect of privilege in situations such as those is interesting. A “regular” person may call this a traumatic event, while others may only see it as a scandal that will affect their futures in regard to how people view them or whether or not they will still attend their prestigious school. Even the most wealthy people experience pain. We all bleed. I hope this reminds us of that.
