I’ve been a fan of Emily Giffin for a while now, and the main reason I appreciate her work is because she has always written about the complicated parts of life and relationships. All We Ever Wanted focuses on the complicated parts of parenthood and features a situation all too common in our social media charged world: a revealing and offensive photo of an unconscious teen girl spreads like wildfire. The book focuses on the perspectives of 3 characters: Nina (the mother of the boy who sent the photo), Tom (the father of the girl in the photo), and Lyla (the girl in the photo). It’s interesting to see Giffin attempt a younger voice in Lyla’s chapters. As an avid YA reader, I didn’t feel like it was the most authentic narration, but including her perspective is great.
