I have read quite a few of Giffin's books. They tend to be a bit formulaic and fall into that "chick lit" realm. This book is clearly an attempt to move beyond the themes of her earlier popular books. I was intrigued to read it as I enjoy Nashville as a city quite a bit. I could tell she was trying to create depth and show complicated family stories. Overall, I think one of my biggest challenges was a lack of likeable characters along with frustrations with the choices and thought processes of said characters. Some things seemed a bit predictable, and I had a pretty good idea where this was all headed. She tries to tackle issues of class and wealth and does an okay job with it. I think it might have been a bit more compelling if the characters did not fall into the habits and behaviors that might be expected for stereotypes. All in all, I didn't feel like I wasted my time reading it, but I am not sure I would pick up another book by her at this point. I think I would know what to expect as far as the story arcs.
