I was really excited by the description of this book and thrilled to get a copy from BookishFirst. I so wanted to get into this book but unfortunately I did not succeed. The main character Emily was flat and impossible to relate to. I wonder if writing from first person on her chapters would have helped give her more depth. The history of Seattle bits were interesting but not enough to keep my interest. Everything was over described which took me out of the story. I felt like I was reading an episode of Touched by an Angel in all of it’s unfortunate corniness. I really didn’t like Emily’s partner’s character and was disappointed there wasn’t more depth to any of the characters. The ghosts were the best part but even that could have had more depth and development. At it’s heart this book is about loss and grief and how to truly move on which is a beautiful concept but I wish it had been told in a more investing way.
