Wow. Does Tanya Williams know how to write a amazingly detailed historical fiction or what? I have never had the pleasure of visiting Seattle, but the authors vivid descriptions of the city she clearly loves, was able to transport there. She was able to make me see what the characters saw and I swear I could almost smell Dorothea’s perfume. Her attention to detail is unparalleled, like nothing I’ve ever read. I loved the back and forth perspectives from Emily to Elizabet. It made the story that much more engaging. While generally speaking I am not a huge fan of third person narration, it fit this story well. I also loved the end where the author notes which parts of the story were true and what was fictional. It was cool to see where her thoughts and ideas stemmed from and made me really want to visit Seattle for sure! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

10 years after the death of her parents, Emily is still suffering from the lose. Determined to bury her feelings she continually pushes away those who love her. When a chance assignment for work to archive the records of an old church, connects to her parents. The wall she has built around her heart begins to crumble as she begins to fall in love with the old church. When she locates the diaries of Elizabet Thomas, she quickly becomes engrossed in the book woman’s life. Meanwhile, Elizabet is stuck inside the walls of her beloved church, looking for her beloved husband. Scared to venture beyond the church she soon becomes attached to Emily as well. Soon both woman will realize how similar there stories really are and how the way they are handling their grief is keeping them perpetually stuck in the same spot, like a hamster running on its wheel. Will both woman learn to heal from within before it’s too late?
