This was a YA about two teens and their families as they struggled to make their way. Noor and Salahudin came to America from Pakistan and lived in a small desert town in California. As they struggle with the normal teen things, they also struggle to fit in and deal with family issues as they are close to finishing high school and moving on to the next steps in their lives.
This one was so good! I ended up listening to it thanks to Libro.fm and the narrators really enhanced my experience of this one. You definitely felt all of their feelings, including a lot of rage as the characters deal with loss, trauma from the past and racism from classmates.
I don’t always love YA if it gets too into details of high school. This one was a great story and I didn’t get bored with it. Give this one a try if you like YA or a story of people overcoming difficulty.
