Why did I read this when I was hormonal??? Just smash my heart into a million pieces, plskthx.

My god, this was so well-written! Looks like I'll need to start a "favorite contemporary YA reads" tag.

It reads a bit melodramatic, but honestly, the whole story was so believable. I could easily picture this as a movie or TV show in my head. Actually, I'd love it if this were adapted into a limited series with a BIPOC cast and crew. It's THAT good!

LOVED all the characters, even the secondary ones. (Which is pretty rare for me.) This is one of those books where I feel like I know the MCs personally. Loved the Muslim American rep. Loved the immigrant stories.

I need more contemporary novels from Sabaa Tahir stat! (And I'm saying this as someone who really liked her fantasy quartet.) She excels in writing realistic and relatable characters. This was such a great novel.
