As a young brown woman, this book is the representation I wish I had grown up with. Seeing Urdu, my Urdu so easily slid into a book, it is unmatched. Emotionally moving and intensely relatable, I can tell this book will match every expectation of acknowledging and talking about brown diaspora. The real conflict of being a brown immigrants are ever-present, as direct and indirect parts of the character's personality.

The crushing familial piety, the feeling of constant debt to your caregiver for they gave up everything to give you a better chance at life, what you can tell your parents and what they will never understand, the youth struggle of getting trapped into racist circles and the comfort of having someone who understands these struggles — it is all present and it is so enchanting. I love this book, I love Sabaa Tahir and god, it will be something I can't wait for the world to have it its entirety.
