Sabaa Tahir’s use of language and imagery is so beautifully layered while still appealing to the YA audience. From chapter 1, it is clear there is deep family trauma to untangle and the first look fave a peek into the character driven way Tahir opens up this story. It’s rare to see a book with first Gen representation that is not afraid to get into realities/ disappointments of the younger generation, while humanizing their choices and efforts to socially survive.
