This novel seems very character-driven and I am okay with that! We quickly get some back story on the two main characters, Sal and Noor, and follow them through the tribulations and drama of their lives during senior year. I appreciated the cultural aspects, diversity, and complex relationships shown so far in the novel.
Between the POVs of Sal and Noor is backstory of Misbah (Sals mom) and I like the added mystery of her background and how her history will affect the current day story.
