The world has not ever been a very forgiving place to those who are different. People often feel as though they have to hides parts of themselves in order to appease society. It can be a struggle, hiding from yourself for so many years. In the case of Laura's father, so many years in the closet must have been difficult to bear. I hope the world can become a better place for us in the future. I'm sure this story is going to be a powerful one, full of anecdotes and recounting feelings of the past, finally being able to feel them in the present.
