Laura Hall has brought her father, and all of his many facets, to life with her rich storytelling and vivid imagery of how he lived a wholehearted, but closeted life as a married father of four who could not openly live as a gay man in his time.

The reader is transported in time, even smelling the kitchen in a fixer-upper her parents bought to raise their family in 1957. Writers aren't taught to write like this anymore. We live in a "get to the point" society and "show me, don't tell me" has been lost. Laura shares her memories, complete with details from all of her senses at the time.

I wanted to know more, and can't wait to read the rest of the book.
