This is an absolutely stunning debut novel! The premise had my interested piqued immediately. The beginning was a little slow, but the foundation the author was laying was well worth it. I feel like I became friends with Devon and Chiamaka and hurt with them, cried with them, angered with them. I wanted to fight with them. The author weaves an enchanting and dark story that confronts topics of racism, social eugenics, and everyday micro and macro aggressions people of color face in the world. Not only is the story super well laid out, but it’s eye opening. There was twist after twist that were a bit predictable, but still very well done. The ending was excellent. I was hoping that maybe this would be a series, but the ending was perfect and I wouldn’t change anything about it. This author is definitely one to watch and I’ll be adding her to my list of authors to immediately buy from when published. Loved it!
