At first glance, Ace of Spades is just another book about high school and those who don't necessarily fit in. However, as the story progresses you are instantly hooked by what's happening to these kids. I wasn't sure who I could trust in the book and Abike-Iyimidi did a great job of making you feel as isolated and paranoid as Chiamaka and Devon. This book is the perfect amount of mystery and thriller while also being a story of resilience and racism in America.

The book was written in a very approachable and addicting way. I feel that when I started reading it, I just wanted to know the ending. However, there are some points in the book that are a bit slow. I especially love the recap that is written at the end of the book which shows how much the characters survived. There are quite a few triggers though such as homophobia, bullying, murder, and other things you should look into before reading. Overall, a really captivating read!!
