This is an incredible debut novel. Once I picked it up I could not put it down.
This is exactly the kind of book that I love to read. I love all things dark academia and always seek out more stories in the genre, but I've never come across one that has Black people at the center of the story. That is something that really drew me to this book in the first place. I wanted a dark academia story from a new angle and point of view, and that's exactly what Ace of Spades is.
The writing was addictive. There was a great flow that made it easy to get lost in the book and completely immerse yourself in the world. The writing was so descriptive, I could easily picture everything that was happening. I loved the characterization of both Devon and Chiamaka. I really felt for both of them and just wanted to wrap them in hugs and let them know that things would be okay. I was so proud of them for standing up for themselves and what is right.
Ace of Spades was an excellent read from start to finish. I highly recommend it!
