From the very first line, I knew I was in for a wild ride. I loved the dual point of view told from the only two black students in the private, exclusive high school. Immediately Chiamaka and Devon felt real to me--they were three dimensional and well rounded, authentic teen voices through which I experienced this diverse world.

This book has everything I loved about thrillers--twists that I never saw coming with cliff-hanger chapter endings that made it difficult to stop reading. I couldn't wait to get back to this book and it was always on my mind during the day. And just when I thought the twists couldn't get any "twistier" the author's imagination once again blew me away.

This novel explores racism, sexuality, choices people are willing to make to get ahead and "succeed" according to the values society tells us are the only meaningful ones to pursue, as well as family and friendship. The author tackles the power of rumors and perceived truths. The writing is excellent and insightful to human nature. I will be seeking more books by this author in the future.
