Ace of Spades is a masterpiece of a debut novel. Everything from the characterisation of the main characters, Devon and Chiamaka, to the schemes unraveling and the thriller-ess of this book was highkey insane. Ace of Spades is dark academia at its root, exploring academia, classism, and systemic oppression.
I will admit that it started off a little bit slow, but once things got going I couldn't put it down. Every twist, every turn, every new clue had be hanging on to every word and needed to read more. This book is terrifying and addicting in every way possible.
Ace of Spades is such an intricately woven thriller. Every time you thought you knew something or made a prediction, there was a twist and the stakes changed again. I was able to see a couple of the twists coming, but it was one of those things where I only saw half of the picture. There was so much going and so many twists, truly, it is impossible to guess them all.
