"How can you play the game when the cards are stacked against you?"

Ace of Spades is a story about a multiracial American teen, Chiamaka, and a Black teen, Devon.
They go to this expensive private school together where everyone but them is white. We follow them through their story of how they are both being targeted by an anonymous texter called 'Aces'.

Chiamaka is a cool character who I found determined and smart. She surprised me in those aspects because usually when I read a highschool story, the characters are usually kinda annoying and the opposite of that. Chiamaika tried her hardest to get good grades and go to college and become a doctor. I really liked her character.

Devon was also a pretty good character. I liked him a lot. He's a normal kid who just wanted to avoid drama and finish the school year, while keeping his secret that he's gay.

I definitely hated Jaime from the start and I'm not sad that he died. I was really happy when Chiamaka got over him and stopped being friends with him.

With André, I wasn't too sure about him. I definitely didn't want Devon to be with him since he was a drug dealer and broke up with Devon the second he was at a risk. And I think it's good that they didn't end up with each other and Devon ended up with Terrell instead.

As for the writing, Ace of Spades started with a very fast beginning and continued at a fast pace throughout the book, something I enjoyed because I usually hate the start of the book because it's too slow.

I was very untrusting throughout the book, I kept on second guessing every character thinking they were 'Aces'. I definitely wasn't expecting that there would be more than one person who was Aces.

I also loved how the book talked about racism, white supremacy and being both queer and black.

Overall, it was a very fun read and a phenomenal debut.
